Politics: Ozwald Balfour, Founder of Black GOP in 2004 with Utah Gov Olene Walker


When the Utah Republican Black Assembly was launched on Martin Luther King Day January 2003 at the Utah State Capital Ozwald Balfour was front and center. At that time, the URBA was announced as an active, official auxiliary for the Utah Republican Party. "We started off with a bang and with a goal and a vision to enlarge the Utah Republican Party to bring in black voters who otherwise might not vote Republican," Balfour said.

Our mission statement is to enlarge and strengthen the Republican Party, to help support Republican candidates and to access the influence and power of the Republican Party in the state of Utah on behalf of our members," Balfour said.
But during the first year of the assembly's operation, some group members left because of conflicting ideologies. Then it got really ugly.
